The BCS Red Division should be a competitive one this year with White Pigeon on the rise. Cassopolis, which finished 4-0 in divisional play last year en route to a 9-3 record and a trip to the Division 7 regional finals, is the team with the target on its back. Cassopolis defeated White Pigeon 26-0 in Week 6 last fall.
“Our outlook is to make the next step in our football progression and win a conference title and make the playoffs,” Morsaw said. “We were a quarter away and a dropped pass away from qualifying for the playoffs last year. Our BCS conference will change again in 2017, so we will be losing a key opponent Bronson after this year. This game has been a battle every year between our towns and we want to finish the conference rivalry with a win.
“Cassopolis is always loaded with talent and they will be the team to beat. Cassopolis is returning Shane Los and Marquis Curtis, who both had good performances in the 2015 season.
“Hunter Rummler, Mike Bright, Zane Shoppell, Sebastian Castro and Gavin Kopf will make a name for the Chiefs in Southwest Michigan.”
Morsaw On Key Players …
On JR QB/LB Kamren Garten
“He was one of our starting MLB’s and backup quarterback. He stepped in early in the season from the JV, and pound for pound, is one of our biggest hitters on the team. Kamren received Special Mention in the conference.”
On SR QB/DB Cole Grant
“He started four games at QB for us last year on offense. He is 3-1 as a starter and has had a great offseason, adding 25 pounds of muscle to his frame. He has had a great summer refining his throwing technique and timing with his receivers. We expect him to lead us on offense.”
On JR RB/S Sebastian Castro
“He is a junior and will be a third-year starter on the team. Sebastian also received All Conference First Team Blue Division for strong safety on the defense. He will also carry the load in the backfield with Hunter Rummler.”
On the offensive line
“Tony Solis, Kevin Barnes, Mike Bright, and Hunter Hooley are returning starting linemen from last year. They did an excellent job of learning their line positions and bring their skill and knowledge to this year’s line. Their pulling techniques on the line are some of the best that we have had in our program.”
On SR OL/DL Kevin Barnes
“He is a returning lineman who made big blocks from the guard position. Kevin received Special Mention in the conference and his quick feet and pulling ability make him our best pulling lineman.”
On SR SE/DB Gavin Kopf
“Gavin is a talented senior who will see the field from both sides of the ball. He had a great finish to his junior year making key plays in tough positions. We expect him to contribute to our passing game and lead our receiving corps.”
On SR OL/DL Mike Bright
“He is a senior who has been working hard in the offseason. We expect him to be a solid center for us and lead our offensive and defensive lines. Mike received All-Conference Honorable Mention and handled many defensive linemen in the 2015 season. His hard work and perseverance in the offseason will pay off for him in 2016.
